We asked one of our instructors in St. Anton, Karina, why St. Anton is the perfect destination for your skiing holiday. Karina is a ski instructor through Snowminds and did her education as an instructor back in November 2015.
In your opinion, why is St. Anton a family-friendly ski resort?
St. Anton is the obvious family skiing-resort, since you will find great activities in the village and enough slopes for everyone in the versatile skiing area. Among others there is a long toboggan run which is open every day during daytime, and additionally is open twice a week for an amazing evening run!
Right next to the ski school´s meeting point, there is a big event park that offers numerous of activities, with some of them being; swimming in an outdoor heated pool, enjoying the spa, ice skating or wall climbing.
Why is St. Anton a kids-friendly resort?
The kids love the kids slope called “Hopplweg”, which leads them through a forest with funny jumps all the way to town. Every day at lunch the ski school’s mascot “Hoppl” - a ski-bunny - comes by to entertain them, this is also adored by all kids.
Which kind of weekly activities and events are arranged by the ski school?
The ski school in St. Anton has three big children areas that all have multiple transport bands and many slalom courses. As previously mentioned the mascot Hoppl never fails to bring joy to the kids during the lunch break. In addition to this the kids get a “Hopll-karte”, where their ski instructor will put a stamp on every time a kid progresses.
At the end of the week there is a slalom course, where the kids will race each other in order to obtain a medal. Generally the sidelines are filled with cheering parents and friends that come to watch how much their children have developed.
Lastly I would like to point out that the ski school is quite large, and because of this the likeliness that a kid will join in a group with a similar level is almost definite.
Tips and tricks for the ski holiday in St. Anton?
Don’t be afraid of bringing young kids with you to the top in one of the two gondolas “Gampen” and “Nassereinbahn”. There are some beginner slopes at the top which are especially great if the weather is good. Here you’ll also find a wonderful family restaurant with a panoramic view over the mountain tops.
For the older kids, there’s an amazing funpark at the top of “Rendl” with both small and big kickers. When you need some off the slope, hit the tobogganing run at day or night. Also don’t forget to take your swimwear with you when you go to St. Anton, so you can hop in the nice outdoor heated pool.
Three must-do’s in St. Anton?
If the sky is clear you should definitely take the “Vallugabahn” to the top of “Valluga”, where you’ll have a 360 degrees panorama view (take the gondola back down if you´re a beginning skier).
Every Wednesday night there’s a ski show, where all ski- and snowboard instructors will take you through the history of skiing, while performing some astonishing tricks. The show will be finished off with some beautiful fireworks
Go on a toboggan run and make a pit-stop at “Rodel-Alm”, which is a typical Austrian, cosy restaurant. With the live music and fire in the fire place you’ll definitely not forget that you’re in Austria. Make sure to get their Kaiserschmarn (traditional Austrian desert), before you leave, because it’s the best in the area!
As a former instructor in St. Anton, would you recommend the destination for a holiday?
As a ski instructor, the most exciting thing about St. Anton how big and varied the skiing area is. Besides that, the cosy town always sparks with the many guests and the many things to do. On top of this the after-ski is amazing and in my opinion Austria’s best. So yes I would definitely recommend going to St. Anton with the whole family.
